2019 Scholarship Program (Deadline June 30th)


The GPA Midstream Association is the primary advocate for a sustainable Midstream Industry focused on enhancing the viability of natural gas and natural gas liquids processing. We provide local, regional and global forums to develop standards, conduct industry research, educate our workforce and improve operational safety. As advocates, we work with legislators and regulators to promote a safe and viable Midstream Industry.

As a regional chapter, the Appalachian Basin GPA Midstream Association (ABGPA Midstream) promotes regional growth within our industry by awarding financial support through our scholarship program to Engineering and Technical School students interested in Midstream careers. For the 2019 academic school year, the ABGPA Midstream plans to award scholarships up to a total of $17,000.

This year, ABGPA Midstream has partnered with the following institutions to help identify scholarship applicants:

  • West Virginia University
  • Pierpont Community & Technical College / Alderson Broaddus University
  • West Virginia Northern Community College
  • Pittsburgh Technical College
  • Westmoreland County Community College
  • Community College of Beaver County
  • Slippery Rock University
  • University of Pittsburgh
  • Stark State College
  • Marietta College


NEW for 2019: Starting in the 2019 program year, we are now accepting applications from current members of ABGPA Midstream and their sponsored immediate family members. Members must be in good standing and a have held a membership for at least one year prior to applying.

The ABGPA Midstream Scholarship Committee is composed of a minimum of three members appointed by the Board of Directors. Applications will be reviewed by the Scholarship Committee, which will recommend qualified nominees to the Board of Directors.


The Scholarship Committee will evaluate applications based on merit of students who, through academic and extra-curricular activities, demonstrate a desire to succeed, a commitment to making a positive contribution to others and whose applications substantiate the minimum requirements noted below.


Applicants must meet the following qualifications:


  1. Student must demonstrate a strong interest in joining the oil and natural gas midstream industry.
  2. Students must currently be enrolled as a full time student (at least 12 credit hours) at a partner school and at least in the second year of a two-year or four-year undergraduate degree program with a concentration in the following:
    • Engineering or Petroleum Technology
    • Construction Management
    • Safety Management
    • I & E Technology
    • Computer Aided Drafting and Design (CADD) (Mechanical/Piping, Electrical, Civil/Structural, etc.)
  3. Students who are ABGPA Midstream members must be in good standing and a have held a membership for at least one year prior to applying.
  4. Sponsored students of ABGPA Midstream members must be child, stepchild, grandchild, sibling or niece/nephew.
  5. Student must possess a grade point average of 2.8 or greater on a 4.0 scale. Proof or verification of GPA may be requested by the Scholarship Committee.
  6. Student must be a US Citizen.
  7. Student cannot be an ABGPA Midstream Scholarship Committee member or a relative of an ABGPA Midstream Scholarship Committee member.

Scholarship applications for the 2019 school year must be emailed to scholarships@abgpa.org
before midnight June 30th, 2019. Simply click the application link above and save the fillable PDF to your computer before completing. Then attach the completed application to your email. Reference letters must be emailed directly from the reference to the email address above.

The ABGPA Midstream Scholarship Committee will review the applications and award by August 1st, 2019.
